School Partners
Funded Partnerships
A great majority of the work done through Wireless Neighborhoods have been with the agencies funded by the PA and US Departments of Education. We have worked with ten organizations through these grants and served well over 350 children. All of the children served under these grants have been served with curriculum materials created or compiled by the Wireless Neighborhoods (WN) education staff.
An interesting challenge for Wireless Neighborhoods is that each organization that it works with may have several different afterschool programs. Wireless Neighborhoods work with each of the programs within an organization separately, with very different sets of staff and program expectations, to support efforts each program’s effort toward quality aligned afterschool program.

Unfunded Partnerships
Part of the unique charge of Wireless Neighborhoods is to building the capacity of community and faith-based organizations, regardless of the size or stage of development. Organizations that buy into our vision of afterschool programming, voluntarily participate in our staff training offerings, and seek out support in curriculum development often become the organizations we turn to when looking for new partners to participate in our funded initiatives. This year eight unfunded community and faith-based organizations were served by WN during the grant period.
The depth of the involvement of our unfunded partners can be described as either emerging or sustaining, depending upon the organization’s engagement in the various curriculum development supports WN provides. An emerging partnership is one in which an organization has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, has met with a WN staff member to discuss their program and begin to assess their program needs. Emerging partnerships often send a few staff members to WN training opportunities and are beginning to contemplate the ways they can integrate the various curriculum development offerings into their program structure and staff development model. A sustaining partnership is one in which the partner has incorporated a number of curriculum development components such as utilizing district pacing guides to plan daily activities, purchasing suggested games and manipulatives, utilizing some form of WN supported electronic curriculum, incorporating the scripted summer curriculum into their summer programming, and sending a number of staff to WN staff development trainings.
